Good things come to those who wait!

What I expected to be a night of entertainment turned out to be something beyond entertainment. I expected to be intrigued and entertained at the Janet Ikz concert, I thought seeing one of my favourite poets would be pure thrill and nothing more, little did I realize that a 3/4hour concert would be an evening of a spiritual awakening and a revival of my covenant with my God. Rainy Cape Town tried to kill my vibe and make it difficult for us to go see the amazing Janet Ikz but it was all worth it. Her half an hour late arrival with her colleague Ezekiel meant absolutely nothing because they made it up with all their performances. I must say though, I found the thirst of many people in attendance who wanted marriage slightly unattractive. They made it seem too obvious that, “I will wait for you” by Janet Ikz was the main reason they were there. Many of them probably don’t have a job and they suddenly want God to give them a spouse? Get real people. And yes, I know a life of singleness in Christ is nothing but easy at times, I know all of that but dignity please- dignity. Furthermore, Ezekiel announced that he is 6 years in marriage with 3 beautiful daughters; suddenly the ladies were having strokes and getting seizures all over the place, chill ladies. It will happen when it’s supposed to happen. Before I sum up the show can we talk about how amazing the MC was?... The dude held it down, he tried too much at times but he did his job exceptionally well. I’m not too sure about the ladies who did injustice to the Sarafina dance “Freedom”, many of them were off beat, looked uninterested and instead of pretending like they were having a good time, they made it seem like they were in pain. Instead of dancing along with them, I was cringing begging them to stop, what  a bummer for an opening sequence, considering it was Janet Ikz and Ezekiel’s first time to SA. Andisena ntloni… Ok, it’s youth day, let me be nice…. Well tried girls.

The two rapper dudes who opened for Ezeikiel were amazing, I couldn’t understand a word they said though (no really, it was in some foreign language) I guess was in love with the beat, I couldn’t help but attempt to dance with my two left feet, my best friend kept asking me to sit down, oh well. I loved Ezekiel’s entrance! He performed all his repertoire and then in came my girl, JANET IKZ !! Listen, she got onto that stage and asked we do my favourite thing in the world, TO WORSHIP! We began exalting the most high king and reverenced his name. However, because we all kept mumbling the words to the songs, she stopped jokingly saying “oh yeah, this is Africa, sorry guys” she blew us away with her poems and before she performed the poem we all eagerly awaited, she announced that after waiting on the lord and earnestly serving and seeking him, she is now engaged to an Olympic athlete and are to tie the knot in September.   We all went insane! Ululating and singing, I even took off my beanie, exposing my uncombed hair…I was happy ok?. But on a serious note, there is hope in waiting on the lord! Wait on him and he shall fulfil his promise to you. After hyping us up she performed “I will wait for you” and then went to change into a wedding dress for her poem with Ezekiel, apparently they were in Botswana and Pretoria before Cape Town and they hadn’t performed that particular poem for any of those cities, I didn’t believe them though but hey, we all were blown away. What I loved about both artists is that they perform exactly the same way they do in the videos we have of them. Nothing irritating than spending volumes of cash only to hear the opposite of what you know.  I learnt two things from the show on Saturday night, 1. The Lord can visit you wherever and whenever he pleases, even at a Janet Ikz concert and most importantly; Waiting on the lord is crucial! Good things come to those who WAIT!

Unfortunately, due to the big size of the videos, they couldn't be uploaded. Enjoy youth day, and remember the brave children of 1976 who marched the streets of Soweto, fighting for a better education and for their voices to be heard. They were untamed. Before I start reciting my Young communicators speech, 2012, let me be on my way. Have a great day further
